Proposed Consortium for Educational Improvement in the MENA Region

Zayed University through the vision of H.E. Sheikh Nahayan Bin Mubarak Al Nahayan, President, recognizes the imperative need to assist with educational improvement in the MENA Region. His Excellency  understands that education in the region will not sustain improvement until the preparation of its teachers and the professional development of its educators improves.

Recognizing the need for increased professional assistance through standards, assessments, professional development, licensing, and accreditation in the MENA Region and to the need to build capacity as noted by the World Bank, HED, GUNI and USAID, Zayed University plans to become a central hub of quality assurance in educator preparation.  The center would offer technical support to Institutions seeking NCATE accreditation.  Additionally, assisting in the development of assessment/licensing instruments for MENA educators  and facilitating the selection of a pool of internal/external Arabic Reviewers to serve on accreditation review teams would also be part of the Center's objective.

The creation of a collaborative center reflects the growing recognition of accreditation as a mechanism for quality assurance in teacher education and educator preparation. The World Bank states that the development of a comprehensive quality assurance system (inclusive of accreditation, licensing, certification and professional development) is necessary for educational improvement in the MENA Region and is seeking ways to assist and support such an initiative. The proposed Center will address the concerns of the World Bank by assisting the MENA Nations in establishing their own preparation standards for admission to college and to the profession.
